Watch Out for the
Symptoms -Yeast Infection
Test
A yeast infection test is possibly the
finest method to use to determine if you have a yeast
infection but a visit to your doctor should be the first
priority.
When you visit your doctor, it is extremely important to
be completely honest with him about some of the symptoms
you are experiencing. He may ask several
questions including the types of symptoms you are
experiencing, how long the symptoms have been occurring,
and what types of medications you have been
taking. He
may also ask about the number of times you have had this
same type of problem.

A yeast infection test
will probably be the first option the doctor administers to
determine if you actually have a yeast infection or if the
problem is a different type of infection. One of the tests is called
a vaginal culture in which cells from the vaginal wall are
used in a preparation known as a wet mount
preparation. If
there is an increase in the number of yeast cells present
when observing using a microscope, this is an indication
that the problem is a yeast infection. A second yeast infection
test he may perform is a blood test to indicate if there is
an increase in the number of white blood cells present,
another indication of an infection in the
body.
Another yeast
infection test that will probably be done by the doctor will
be a pelvic examination to determine is there is
inflammation of the skin of the vulva as well as the vagina
and cervix. He will also be checking to see if white plaques
are evident on the vaginal wall.
Once the doctor
determines that you have a yeast infection, then he will
determine the appropriate treatment to be
administered.
If this is your first yeast infection, he may prescribe a
medication that can cure your problem in approximately seven
days. If this
is a recurrent yeast infection, he may prescribe the use of
tablets, creams, or suppositories.
Studies have shown
that having a recurrent yeast infection may make you more
susceptible to contracting the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV) although this does not normally occur. Women who take excessive
doses of antibiotics to treat a yeast infection may develop
a resistance to some of these drugs.
There are a variety of
different medicines which can be purchased from your local
pharmacy to treat yeast infection. Vagisil and Monostat are
among the common brands which do not require a
prescription.
However, some women have used a variety of home-made
remedies to treat a yeast infection. Among these include
cranberry juice, using a vinegar douche, eating yogurt,
curds, olive leaf and grapefruit extract, potassium sorbate,
acidophilus, and using a water solution
douche.
Another precaution to
take if you have a yeast infection is to avoid being
sexually active as you can transfer this infection to your
partner. The
use of a condom or cream does not guarantee that the
infection will not be passed on.
The yeast infection
test is the most appropriate and best method to determine if
you indeed have this particular infection in your
body. Your
doctor should be the first line of defense in coping with a
yeast infection.
