This website has been set up as a guide
to help anyone suffering with the horrible symptoms of a yeast
infection. Inside
you will find information on every aspect of yeast infections,
including the causes, symptoms, treatments, and
types. Lets start
with explaining what a yeast infection is.
What is a
Candida Yeast
Infection?
Candida yeast infections are mostly
infections of the skin or mucous membranes and are caused
by the genus of fungi called Candida. They appear as large, round colonies
when cultured in the laboratory and are white, cream, or
whitish-gray in color. One of the most common species is
Candida albicans, which lives peacefully with other flora
in the human body. Its growth is usually kept in check by
other types of bacteria that live commonly with this
species. It lives
peacefully inside the dark, warm, moist areas of the body
such as in the ears, mouth, blood, gastrointestinal area,
and also commonly in the female genitalia.
It also prefers the human
skin, particularly in the warm moist areas such as the
folds of the skin and armpit
areas.

Candidiasis is
more commonly known as a "vaginal yeast infection" because of
the name of the species commonly associated with it.
The Candida albicans species
appear as single oval shaped yeast cells when viewed with the
microscope. It duplicates
itself through a process known as budding in which cells create
genetic clones of themselves and grow off the original parent
cell until they drop off and begins the process of growing as
an individual yeast organism.
What is
the Cause of Yeast
Infections?
There are several
steps that must occur in developing a vaginal infection.
There are two conditions that
must be met for the development of the yeast.
The human body's temperatures
must be at a certain level and the pH levels must be
balanced. These two
conditions are also important to cause the death of the
bacteria which normally grow in symbiosis with the
yeast. Death of these
bacteria allows the Candida albicans cells to thrive and
replicate.
When Candida
albicans fungi mark their territories in a vaginal infection,
they cause a variety of different sensations, including
burning, itching, soreness, or tingling.
Occasionally, two of these
sensations may be felt simultaneously.
Scratching of the affected
areas simply acts to compound the overgrowth of the
fungi.
Additional signs
of these Candida yeast infections include pain, swelling
of the joints, fatigue, drowsiness, muscle aches, dizziness,
and fluid retention, swelling of the tissues, loss of balance,
lack of coordination, lack of concentration, poor memory,
depression, or anxiety. It may also include irritability and cravings
for sugars, carbohydrates and alcohol.
Some of these are symptoms
of other infections in the body but must be investigated
with more reliable
testing.
The overgrowth of
fungi in a Candida yeast infection can also cause some other
specific side effects. These include white or cream-colored patches
inside the mouth extending to the soft palate.
They also cause digestion
problems and even make bowel movement difficult.
Patchy sores near the head or on
the foreskin of afflicted penises indicate a yeast
infection. Candidiasis
yeasts are also responsible for discharges from the ear, bowels
in the stool, and the
genitalia.
These infections can also cause serious,
even fatal, diseases if not cared for properly.
They are particularly serious if
the person suffers from a weakened or underdeveloped immune
system, from diabetes, from the human immunodeficiency virus
(HIV), or from the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome
(AIDS).
However, these types of infections
can be permanently cured through immediate and proper diagnosis
and proper medication.
